VNA partners to help community members begin tough conversations
Last week, VNA partnered with Jewish Family Services and the Dallas Aaaron Family JCC to present a free screening and discussion of the PBS Frontline film Being Mortal. Based on the best-selling book by Atul Gawande, MD, the documentary explores the hopes of patients and families facing terminal illness and their relationships with the physicians who treat them. VNA’s Chief Nursing Officer, Olivia Rogers and VNA Manager of Support Services, Gail Myere, LCSW joined the panel along with Rabbi Howard Wolk, Community Chaplain at Jewish Family Service, Dr Alfred Levy, Director of Supportive and Palliative Care, BSW Plano, Lori Leu, Elder Law Attorney, and Katherine Rubenstein of Jewish Community Center.
The panel of medical professionals and community members together discussed the shared responsibility of discussing what matters most to patients and families facing difficult treatment decisions and how to have these conversations ahead of medical crisis. If your group is interested in hosting a similar event or if you would like to discuss how you can start the conversation with your family, call Sarah Harris at (214) 535-2615.

Honoring the Legacy of H. Ross Perot, Sr.
We here at VNA join our community and our nation in mourning the loss of H. Ross Perot. He made an indelible impact on our community and VNA is grateful for the generous support of the Perot family over the years. His benevolence has touched countless lives in North Texas and will live on for generations.
In celebration of the inspirational life of Mr. Perot, his family has graciously included VNA in their request for memorial gifts in his honor. For VNA, these generous gifts honoring his legacy will provide comfort and care to the most vulnerable in our community. The family has requested that the gifts made to VNA in his memory support our VNA Care Choices home-based palliative care program and will extend VNA’s continuum of care linking the social services provided by Meals on Wheels with the expert clinical services to seniors in need.
Mr. Perot prioritized service to others. In that spirit, the family asks for memorial gifts to be made to one of his favorite charities and that each of us to consider an act of kindness to a friend, neighbor or stranger in our community to further honor his memory. If you want to honor Mr. Perot in this way, visit volunteer.vnatexas.org to deliver a Meals on Wheels route or click here to make a memorial gift.
You can read more about his remarkable life here: https://www.rossperot.com/memorials#tributes-section
Sincerely,
Katherine, President and CEO
