Help Us Close the Gap
Imagine throwing a dinner party for all your family and friends. A meal that would be freshly prepared and include a delicious main dish and two scrumptious sides. A meal made with love and served with the friendliest smile to those you care about most. This is what VNA does every weekday for 4,500 of our senior neighbors in Dallas County.
Of course, providing a nutritious, hot meal for 4,500 is a monumental task. Preparing Meals on Wheels requires 4,168 pounds of food a day and several cooks in the kitchen. VNA receives funding for these meals from government sources and from our generous community. Unfortunately, government funding only covers part of the cost of a meal. This leaves a $20,000 funding gap every week!
We rely on the support of people like you to close the gap each and every day. Hungry, homebound seniors who are isolated and alone depend on the nutrition and socialization we provide. A nourishing meal delivered by a caring friend helps these seniors stay in their homes. Clients just like George who rely on the hot meal delivered each day.
Recently, George suffered a fall one Saturday—leaving him stranded for two days. When Monday arrived, George couldn’t answer the door when his Meals on Wheels volunteer arrived. “Meals on Wheels was the first responder, I am lucky because they came to help,” said George. “It’s such a great organization, you might not know it, but the supporters are helping a lot of people who are alone and can’t cook, like myself.”

Citi Delivers Dallas
Last week, more than 900 Citi employees delivered 2,600 meals in the 21st year of their partnership with VNA Meals on Wheels. The event, Citi Delivers Dallas, coincides with Citi’s 14th annual Global Community Day.
Since the VNA Meals on Wheels/Citi partnership began, Citi has donated $187,500 and delivered more than 100,000 meals! This year, Citi has generously awarded VNA Meals on Wheels a grant of $15,000 to help provide food and friendship to hungry, homebound seniors in need in Dallas County. In addition to delivering meals, volunteers will also provide clients with fans to offer relief during the summer. Thank you, Citi, for your incredible support!

Community Partners Make it Happen
VNA could not do our important work fulfilling our mission of helping people age with dignity and independence at home without dedicated community partners. Recently, VNA was honored to receive grants from several funders for our various programs. These committed organizations include Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc., Highland Park United Methodist Church, Junior League of Richardson, Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, Temple Emanu-El, The Meadows Foundation, and The Women of Saint Michael. Their gifts will provide compassion, kindness and friendship to so many in North Texas. Thank you for your incredible gifts to VNA in support of those we serve!

Celebrating 85 Years
As we celebrate our 85th anniversary at VNA, I have reflected on how we got to where we are today. From the passion of the two tenacious women who founded us to the countless supporters who continue delivering meals every day, it is only with the help of others that we can provide these vital services. We are so grateful for all of the individuals who commit their time and support to VNA.
It is also important to recognize the many organizations which have helped make VNA what it is today. Building strong communities is made possible through meaningful public/private partnerships. The corporate partners who have committed their time and efforts to VNA have made an invaluable investment in the North Texas community. Without their support we would not be able to serve the 4,500 hungry seniors with hot meals each day.
VNA is providing corporate groups with a unique opportunity to increase brand awareness while helping those in need. The 85 for 85 campaign will feature 85 participating groups who will sponsor Meals on Wheels for an entire day—covering the cost of all 4,500 meals for the day and reaching an ideal target market with our passionate volunteers. Working alongside our community partners, we are helping to build a strong future for the communities we serve.
