Basic questions about VNA Hospice.
What is the basic difference between home VNA Home Health Care and Hospice?
VNA Hospice shifts the focus from curing terminal disease or illness to managing symptoms and treatment to benefit the patient’s quality of life. VNA Hospice emphasizes care that relieves a patient’s pain, making the patient as comfortable as possible. Hospice also provides emotional support for the patient and family, helping them prepare physically, emotionally, and spiritually for the end of life.
What services should we expect?
VNA Hospice involves a range of medical care and emotional support for terminally ill patients and their loved ones. VNA will assign a nurse, who works with the patient’s physician to provide the appropriate level of care. The hospice team also includes the services of a home health aide, chaplain, social worker, and volunteer.
How do we set up our home for hospice care?
Your hospice team will order all the appropriate equipment, medical supplies, and medications to insure the patient’s comfort in the home. At some stage this might include a hospital bed, oxygen, and other equipment.
Is there anyone I can call at VNA to discuss hospice care?
