VNA Ann's Haven

Ann Winter Lockwood

VNA Ann's Haven was the first community-based, nonprofit hospice care agency in Denton County named in memory of Ann Winter Lockwood - a Denton County resident and nurse who died from cancer in 1977. Her husband enlisted the help of medical professionals and volunteers as a Care Team to provide Ann with personal, holistic (medical, spiritual, psychological) end-of-life care during her final weeks. Because of that care, Ann's needs were met and she was able to rest comfortably, allowing her to share many precious hours with family and friends.

Seeing first-hand the quality of life Ann benefited from during her final days, the group wanted to do something to provide that same care to others in the Denton community. After attending a seminar in Georgia on a "new concept" of end-of-life care called Hospice, Dr. Lockwood realized this was the same philosophy his team had used to care for Ann, and he brought back the information to the Denton group. This information and direction ultimately led to the official founding of VNA Ann's Haven Hospice, the first licensed hospice in Texas and one of the first in the U.S.

Today, VNA Ann's Haven not only provides superior at-home Hospice Care services, but also provides the essential Private Care to help seniors age with dignity and independence at home.  For more information about VNA Ann's Haven services, call (940) 349-5900 or email hospice@vnatexas.org.
