Bereavement Services
Bereavement support starts for VNA patients on admission for hospice services. This can include home visits by a chaplain or social worker. After the death, VNA Hospice offers a variety of support services to the bereaved.
Support through phone calls
Hospice staff and volunteers call primary caregivers periodically during the year following the patient’s death.
Support through mailings
A bereavement newsletter and a calendar of upcoming events are sent to all family members on a quarterly basis.
Support through home visits
Hospice staff and volunteers are available to make visits to our bereaved families.
Support through meetings
VNA Hospice offers the support group “Sharing the Journey: Coping with Grief” several times a year, at no cost to participants. VNA also presents a holiday workshop and a one-day workshop called “Good Grief.” Bereavement luncheons are held throughout the year.
Support through remembering
VNA’s memorial services give the bereaved, VNA staff, and volunteers an opportunity to remember and celebrate the lives of those we have lost.
Bereavement support groups and activities are open to bereaved adults in the community and are offered free of charge.
