Welcome to VNA and we thank you for your interest in serving the elderly, ill, and infirm as a VNA volunteer. Today nearly 4,000 VNA volunteers touch the lives of the homebound and disabled through one of our programs. We invite you to discover which program is right for you:
Deliver VNA Meals on Wheels
Monday through Friday, throughout the year, VNA Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver hot, nutritious meals to the homebound and hungry. Our volunteers also provide personal contact for some of our community's most isolated seniors.
VNA Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers deliver once a week, once a month, or through their employer's Day of Caring Program. The volunteer delivers in their own vehicle of any size, donating their time and their gasoline expense. VNA Meals on Wheels creates geographically compact, efficient routes that provide an easy and rewarding way to serve our homebound seniors.
Meals for each route are packed in two coolers (hot and cold foods) and delivered throughout Dallas County. A typical route serves 10 to 12 clients and takes about two hours to deliver in the late morning hours.
New volunteers are welcome! Training is provided on first and third Thursdays from 10:30am to 11:30am at 1440 W. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas Texas 75247, and by appointment. If interested in organizing a Day of Caring project, please contact Betsy Cox at (214) 689-2210 or coxbe@vnatexas.org.
Volunteer with VNA Hospice Care
As a VNA Hospice volunteer, our very special training gives you the personal strength and knowledge to bring comfort, solace and care to an adult in the final phase of a terminal illness. It is often in the evenings and on weekends when the need is greatest for the patient, and to provide some respite for the family and caregivers.
VNA encourages family members to wait a minimum of one year following the death of a loved one before volunteering as a Hospice patient care volunteer or Bereavement support volunteer.
Volunteer for a special project
VNA has volunteer opportunities for everyone. VNA welcomes individuals, friends, and families wishing to contribute their time and talents on a project basis to brighten the day and provide meaning for living to the aging.
Students can decorate holiday greeting cards or Positive Placemats with a warm message for Meals on Wheels clients. Volunteers sew blankets, afghans, gowns, and positioning pillows for hospice patients. VNA also collects and wraps full size toiletries for more than 4,000 patients and clients each holiday season.
