I want to volunteer on evenings and weekends.
An elderly widow living alone needs groceries. A hospice patient needs someone to hold his hand over the weekend. As day becomes night and the work week the weekend, the needs of the elderly, ill and dying continue.
As a VNA Eldercare Friends volunteer, your “friend” looks forward to a visit on a Saturday afternoon, or someone to drive her to the doctor and to talk with, or an evening phone call from you to make sure that the day has gone well. You and your client set this schedule.

As a VNA Hospice volunteer, our very special training gives you the personal strength and the knowledge to bring comfort, solace, and care to an adult in the final phase of a terminal illness. It is often in the evening and on weekends when the need is the greatest for the patient, and to provide some respite for the family and caregivers.
VNA encourages family members to wait a minimum of one year following the death of a loved one before volunteering as a Hospice patient care volunteer or Bereavement support volunteer.
