Turning Vision Into Reality
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our donors, partners, and community advocates, Katherine’s House is moving from vision to reality. The Visiting Nurse Association of Texas is proud to share that renovations have begun on North Texas’ first Assisted Living Facility dedicated to serving seriously ill individuals who have no safe place to receive end-of-life care.
Located at 2800 Swiss Avenue in Dallas’ Wilson Historic District, Katherine’s House will provide a compassionate, home-like setting where patients can be surrounded by dignity, comfort, and professional care.
Progress to Date
Over the past several months, the project has reached important milestones that bring VNA closer to opening the doors of this historic home:
- Renovations are underway on the five-bedroom home generously provided by The Meadows Foundation.
- Licensure planning is advancing. VNA is developing the policies, procedures, and operational framework required for state licensure, with the Assisted Living Facility application on track for submission in September 2026.
- Community support continues to grow. To date, VNA has raised $4,296,501 toward the project, with additional proposals pending as we work toward our $5 million goal.
- Opening preparations are underway. Renovations are expected to be completed in late fall 2026, followed by final inspections, licensing review, staff onboarding, and preparations to welcome the first residents in early 2027.
Why Katherine’s House Matters
Hospice and palliative care provides compassionate medical, emotional, and spiritual support during life’s final chapter. Yet, many North Texans cannot access hospice because they do not have a safe place to live, a caregiver at home, or the resources needed to receive care outside of a hospital setting.
Too often, these vulnerable individuals spend their final days in hospitals, emergency rooms, or institutional settings because no better alternative exists.
How Katherine’s House Will Meet the Need
As the first facility of its kind in North Texas, Katherine’s House will offer 24-hour care in a warm, residential environment for patients who would otherwise have nowhere to turn. VNA anticipates serving approximately 125 patients each year, ensuring that some of our community’s most vulnerable neighbors can experience dignity, comfort, and compassionate care at the end of life.

Looking Ahead
As Katherine’s House moves closer to opening, VNA will continue to finalize licensing requirements, operational procedures, staffing plans, and community partnerships. Critical funding is still needed to complete renovations, furnish the home, equip patient care spaces, train staff, and support the first years of service.
Every gift brings us closer to welcoming the first residents in early 2027 and ensuring that no seriously ill North Texan faces the end of life alone or without a safe place to call home.
