Katherine’s House Fall 2026 Update
|
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our donors, partners, and community advocates, Katherine’s House is moving from vision to reality. We are proud to share that renovations are underway on North Texas’ first Assisted Living Facility dedicated to seriously ill individuals who have no safe place to receive end-of-life care.
Located at 2800 Swiss Avenue in Dallas’ Wilson Historic District, Katherine’s House will offer a compassionate, home-like setting where residents can experience dignity, comfort, and professional care.
Progress to Date
- Renovations are underway on the five-bedroom home generously provided by The Meadows Foundation.
- Licensure planning is advancing, with the Assisted Living Facility application on track for submission this fall.
- Community support continues to grow, with $4,296,501 raised toward the $5 million goal and additional proposals pending.
- Opening preparations are underway, with renovations expected to be completed in late fall 2026, followed by final inspection.
As we work toward welcoming our first residents in early 2027, critical funding is still needed for renovations, furnishings, patient-care equipment, staff training, and initial operating costs.
Every gift brings us closer to ensuring that no seriously ill North Texan faces the end of life alone or without a safe place to call home.

Across North Texas, a quiet crisis is unfolding behind closed doors. More older adults than ever are struggling to put food on the table, and many are facing impossible choices between buying groceries, paying for medication, keeping the lights on, or covering rent.
The numbers are alarming. Today, more than 900,000 Texans age 60 and older are food insecure, the highest number in the nation. Here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, 154,500 seniors are experiencing hunger, a sharp increase from 119,800 just one year ago. That means 11.5% of our senior neighbors do not know where their next meal will come from.
At VNA Meals on Wheels, we see the human side of these statistics every day. We meet seniors who stretch a single meal across an entire day, ration medication so they can afford groceries, or skip meals altogether because there simply isn’t enough money left at the end of the month.
For many of the older adults we serve, a Meals on Wheels delivery provides much more than nutrition. It offers a friendly face, a wellness check, and the reassurance that someone cares. Last year alone, VNA delivered more than 1.3 million meals to homebound seniors in Dallas County, helping thousands of older adults remain healthy, safe, and independent in their own homes.
But the need is growing rapidly. Seniors are living longer, costs continue to rise, and changes to public nutrition programs are creating additional challenges for many older adults. As more seniors turn to organizations like VNA for support, community involvement becomes more important than ever.
The good news is that each of us can make a difference.
When you volunteer, you help combat both hunger and isolation. When you donate, you help provide nutritious meals, safety checks, and critical support services. When you advocate for older adults, you help ensure that our community remains a place where seniors can age with dignity.
I am continually inspired by the generosity of our donors and volunteers. Because of you, thousands of vulnerable seniors receive nourishment, connection, and hope each day. As senior hunger continues to rise, I invite you to stand with us once again. Together, we can ensure that every senior in our community has access to the food, care, and compassion they deserve.
Thank you for helping VNA Meals on Wheels deliver more than a meal. You are delivering independence, dignity, and hope.
