VNA Adopt-a-Senior is Here!

Every year VNA hosts a Holiday Gift wrap event at the Haggerty Kitchen where volunteers come together and wrap donated toiletry items for the senior clients we serve. These items are delivered to our clients on Christmas morning along with their hot holiday meal. Due to the pandemic, this year will be a little different. We are asking our volunteers and corporate partners to assist VNA in making this Christmas one to remember by adopting a senior!

Each holiday gift bag should include the following essential items:

  • (1) full-size tube of toothpaste

  • (1) adult toothbrush

  • (1) 15-ounce bottle of shampoo

  • (1) bar of soap

  • (1) washcloth

  • (1) pair of white tube socks

The number of seniors you adopt will be up to you! You will personally wrap each individual item in the comfort of your own home and then place them in a holiday gift bag which will be provided by VNA. After the bags are completed, they can be dropped off at the VNA Meals on Wheels Haggerty Kitchen location (1440 W. Mockingbird Ln, Dallas, TX 75247) Monday - Thursday from 9AM-2PM.

If you would like to order these items on Amazon, visit our Amazon Wishlist.

The following items will be provided by VNA Meals on Wheels:

  • Wrapping paper

  • Decorated holiday gift bags

Contact Tracie Demery at VNA Meals on Wheels for more information at (214) 689-2653 or demeryt@vnatexas.org.

Help North Texas Seniors

Support our seniors on North Texas Giving Day, Thursday, September 17th!  A gift of only $35 will feed a hungry, homebound senior for an entire week. A gift of $150 will provide hospice care for a patient for a day.

Since the pandemic began, our budget grew by $1.5 million and as it continues, the need for additional funding will persist. Critical medical supplies will likely remain in high demand at a substantially higher cost. The need is greater now than ever before. As our community navigates our new normal, our vulnerable senior neighbors need your help to ensure their bodies and souls remain nourished and for our seriously ill patients to receive care that is safe and compassionate.

Your gift matters and you can multiply it even more!  Thanks to a generous board member, your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000.

Are you ready to introduce VNA to a new audience and raise funds to keep our mission going? On North Texas Giving Day, we have a quick and easy way to do it! Join us in our efforts by creating a FUNdraising page on behalf of VNA to share with your networks about why our organization is important to you. Creating a FUNdraising page is quick, easy and can make a significant impact on VNA and the lives of the seniors we serve.

Be on the lookout for more information about North Texas Giving Day and how you can support our goal of raising $200,000!

Thank You for Your Support

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, VNA has experienced a wide variety of challenges to ensure our clients and patients are nourished, comforted, and well cared for at home. Perhaps our biggest challenge has been the funding deficit as a result of the crisis. VNA experienced an outpouring of support from various corporate partners, foundations, and community groups that ensured we were able to continue our mission through COVID. VNA wants to thank these groups for their support: 1814 Magazine, American First National Bank, BAPS Charities, Bank of America, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Harry W. Bass,
Jr. Foundation, Cigna, Crossroads/North Texas Food Bank, City of Garland, Federal Home Loan Bank,
H-E-B/Central Market, Hillcrest Foundation, Hoblitzelle Foundation, Kozmetsky Family Foundation, Lyda Hill Philanthropies, Christopher Martin Gallery, Mavs Foundation, Meadows Foundation, Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), Molina, Moody Foundation, National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), Pearl Energy Investments, Perot Foundation, PwC, Rees-Jones Foundation, Santander Foundation, Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities, Texas Rangers Foundation, Toyota, Truist Cares, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas – North Texas Cares, Washington Federal Bank Foundation, and Wells Fargo.

A message from CEO, Katherine Krause

Amidst this crisis, community service is more important than ever. We are engaging our dedicated volunteers both virtually and in person to meet the growing needs of North Texas seniors. For the 9th year, we are accepting applications for our 2020-21 Teen Board. This enthusiastic and compassionate group of young people not only help vulnerable seniors through community service, but also have the opportunity to learn from elders in our community. We truly believe that bridging generations through volunteer support and building relationships will make our community stronger.

Thank you to our previous Teen Board members and for future members. We are excited to welcome you to the VNA team!

Thoughtfully,
Katherine Krause Photo round
