Here are some highlights that you made possible!
Since 1934, the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) has provided the highest quality care to the most vulnerable in our communities. Through the years, we have delivered millions of meals to our hungry, homebound neighbors, and given millions of hours of compassionate care to those suffering from serious illness. In 2024, VNA is proud to celebrate our 90th anniversary and we look forward to the next 90 years serving those who need it most.
In 2023, we told you VNA made an exciting change, hiring Community Health Workers to better serve our Meals on Wheels clients and connect more with the community. It has been an exciting year for this group! These dedicated professionals completed nearly 300 in-home assessments, referred nearly 100 clients for a higher level of clinical support in the home, attended dozens of community events, and engaged with more than 450 community members at these events!
The VNA Meals on Wheels 50th Anniversary Challenges were a huge success! VNA held a total of 17 drawings for monthly, quarterly and the final prizes. In total, 1,821 volunteers were entered into the various drawings and combined, these volunteers delivered 619,725 meals! Thank you to ALL our wonderful volunteers for helping us celebrate our 50th birthday!
In our efforts to help combat the loneliness and isolation so many of our homebound senior clients face, VNA launched our Sunshine Calls program in January in partnership with Factor Health out of the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. This program provides an extra layer of vital socialization and friendship for our elderly neighbors. This exciting project is near and dear to the VNA team, as we see first-hand the impact of loneliness and isolation on our senior neighbors. We look forward to learning how we can combat this lasting epidemic of loneliness.
