Thank you for visiting vnatexas.org, the website for the Visiting Nurse Association of Texas (“VNA”).  This privacy policy describes the personal information we collect from you when you visit our website and how we use that information.  Please read this policy before using the site or submitting any personal information.  By using this site, you are accepting the practices described in this privacy policy.

We collect personal information that you provide when you register or fill out forms online for our health care services, send an e-mail or submit a customer service inquiry from the site, respond to an e-mail or other communication from us, or use other features of the site that include voluntary submission of personal information.  You may visit the site without providing such information.  However, you will not be able to use some features of the site unless you voluntarily provide the requested personal information.

What kinds of personal information do we collect?

The information we collect may include your name, address, telephone numbers, e-mail address,  insurance information (Medicare or other insurance number), date of birth and medical conditions and financial information that may qualify you for the services we offer through our various programs.  If you decide to choose to donate to us online, you will also submit your credit card information.  All of this information is voluntarily submitted by you, or by you on behalf of another.  You do not have to provide personal information online in order to use our website or to obtain services from VNA.

We may also collect aggregate information about overall use of the site. For example, we may collect information about the amount of time that users spend on the site, the pages that are viewed and searches that are conducted on the site. This information does not identify you as an individual.

Website Features

Our website provides prospective patients, their individual representatives, and prospective volunteers and donors various ways to interact with VNA.  For example, you may use our website to:

  • Fill out forms to refer a patient, volunteer for hospice or obtain further information about hospice or apply for Meals on Wheels.
  • Interact with VNA representatives via a “chat box” feature to obtain further information about VNA services.
  • Sign up to volunteer for our Meals on Wheels program.
  • Research available jobs at VNA.

The Meals on Wheels volunteer portal and our careers link connects you to third-party controlled portals or websites (Indeed.com).  We do not control the privacy practices of third-party portals or links.

How do we use the information we collect?

We use personal information that you submit to respond to the reason that you provided the information – generally, to provide you with information regarding health care and other services that we offer, pricing and other information.  We may use your personal information to send you communications about our services that may be of interest to you to the extent permitted by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”).  We may also use your information to personalize your website experience and to deliver content and product and service offerings relevant to your interests, including targeted offers and ads through our website, third-party sites, and via email or text message if you have provided that information to us.  You have the right to opt out of receiving such information and offers.

We also use personal information to operate the features of the website and to comply with legal requirements.

How do we protect personal information?

We use a variety of security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access or disclosure.  When you submit personal information online, the information is automatically encrypted using a software technology called Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL.  We store all personal information in a secured network.  Donations are processed through a separate, encrypted website that is linked to ours.  However, no method of protecting information sent over the Internet is perfect, and so we cannot guarantee that your information is absolutely secure.

Do we disclose personal information to other parties?

We do not sell or share your information with third parties for their marketing purposes.  We use and disclose personal information for our own health care operations, including for billing for the services that we provide, and for marketing our services to you.  We may also disclose information when necessary to respond to complaints or to comply with legal requirements.

What about your health information?

Do we collect personal information about children?

This website is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information about children.  If you believe that a child has submitted personal information to us, please contact our Privacy Officer at the number set forth below, and we will remove any personal information that we can identify.  Parents, guardians or anyone with legal custody of a child may use the website to register a child online for services, however.

“Do Not Track” Signals under California Online Privacy Protection Act (CALOPPA)

We do not support Do Not Track (“DNT”).  Do Not Track is a preference you can set in your web browser to inform websites that you do not want to be tracked.  You can enable or disable Do Not Track by visiting the Preferences or Settings page of your web browser.
