Sharing Our Blessings With Others

What makes a holiday special is sharing our blessings with other people. Each year, we have several opportunities for you to give a little bit of your time by delivering Meals on Wheels and make the holidays more joyous and meaningful than ever. On Thanksgiving, we fulfill the promise of the day by sharing a hot, fresh turkey meal with 4,700 of our local seniors.

While you may have plans to be with family and friends in the afternoon or evening, many of our clients are homebound and our delivery volunteers will be the only people to wish them "Happy Thanksgiving." We invite you and your family to continue or start a new tradition of service that will leave you feeling truly thankful all year long. We'll design a route for you that will take about an hour and a half with pick-up between 8:30am - 9:30am at the VNA Haggerty Center on 11/24. Other holiday opportunities: Christmas 12/26 or MLK Day 1/16. Sign up for one or all three holidays by emailing volunteer@vnatexas.org.

Helping Seniors is as Easy as Pie!

What is the most delicious way to celebrate Thanksgiving? With the Power of Pie! Dallas' Top Bakers donate delicious pumpkin and pecan pies and with your purchase, 100% of proceeds serve VNA clients and patients. So sweet! You'll be the hero of your Thanksgiving table when your guests see how charitable you are and how great your pie is! We'll have pick up locations all over town and delivery through UberEats. That's as "Easy as Pie!" Sign up today to be a pie seller and earn web badges and VNA swag as you encourage your network to join you in this delicious way to support seniors. Additional chefs and pick up locations are being added daily! Visit www.powerofpie.org for more details and to order your pie today!

P.S. You don't like pie? You can purchase a "Zero Calorie" pie for $25; that's a $25 donation, no pie.

Alzheimer's Walk

Many of our hospice patients are living with Alzheimer's disease, and in fact, it is the leading diagnosis of patients we serve. Our staff and their families recently participated in four Alzheimer's walks in Dallas, The Colony, Collin County, and at Highland Springs. We walked to both support our patients and families currently living with Alzheimer's, and in memory of patients we have served.

As the oldest and most trusted hospice provider in Texas, we've seen first-hand the impact Alzheimer's has on patients and families, which is why we partner with the Alzheimer's Association. While we had a fun time doing something meaningful and healthy, we never forget how significantly this disease affects our patients, their families, and our own staff.

Experience Being Mortal
You're invited to experience Being Mortal, a documentary that aired nationally on FRONTLINE in 2015 and has started important conversations across the country about end-of-life care. As Texas' oldest and most trusted hospice provider, VNA was selected for a grant to help bring the topic to the community.

The goal is to help people begin to consider their options and communicate their wishes. The film is an adaptation of the book Being Mortal written by Dr. Gawande, and tells his story as a physician in understanding a person's true priorities so they can be honored at the end of life. Join us to watch the documentary, hear a panel discussion and enjoy a light lunch. RSVP required to events@vnatexas.org.

Thank you for your record-breaking support provided on North Texas Giving Day! With more than 600 gifts, including a few made to us directly, you raised more than $200,000 to support the seniors in need in our community. Each gift provides Meals on Wheels and charitable hospice care, but it also renews our spirit to see such widespread support for the clients and patients we care about so deeply.

The weather has cooled down and fall is here. It means our 10,000+ volunteers are back on a regular schedule, and the crisp air reminds us that the busy holiday season is approaching. Now is a great time to consider how you can stay connected and engaged - as a volunteer, pie buyer, donor, or social media fan. Your support makes a difference to the thousands of lives served each day and we are proud to be a top volunteer and senior aging resource in North Texas.

Greatfully,
