VNA Today September 2016
NORTH TEXAS GIVING DAY

Each year, generous supporters like you join us for North Texas Giving Day. On September 22nd, from 6 am to midnight, you can make a difference by providing a meal to a homebound senior and providing charitable hospice care to someone with less than 6 months to live.

As you know, we change lives every day by delivering more than 1.5 million meals, but if you’ve ever volunteered with us, you know we deliver more than a meal. We deliver a smile, a safety check, and we deliver hope. For most of our clients, our volunteer or staff member who deliver their meals are the only person they see that day. Our charitable hospice care allows every person to receive services to help them spend their last days with dignity and comfort, regardless of their ability to pay. We are the oldest and most trusted hospice provider in Texas, and one of the only non-profit providers.

Your gift of $30 will provide hot, nutritious meals for a homebound senior for a week. For $1500, you can provide meals to a senior for a year. For $5000, you will provide compassionate care for one charitably-funded hospice patient. Every gift made on North Texas Giving Day will help us receive bonus funds and prizes. Plus, we have a matching gift challenge from the Philip T.Bee Charitable Trust. With your help, we will reach our goal to raise $200,000 on North Texas Giving Day! Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to see all the fun things we have planned!

SafeHaven, A Support for Grieving Children

When a child experiences the death of someone significant in their lives, their life is changed forever and they may not know how to express their grief. VNA's SafeHaven is a safe place for families to share the journey of grief, healing, and hope. The program engages them in activities and discussions to help them learn effective, positive coping skills to confront and communicate their feelings. Our comprehensive eight-week program works with children aged 5 to 18. Families may contact us directly or receive a referral from school counselors, therapists, spiritual advisors or physicians. This program is provided free of charge and is made possible by generous donors as an extension of our hospice care program. To volunteer or refer a family, please email safehaven@vnatexas.org

Nobody Loves Washing Dishes, But We Love The David M. Crowley Foundation!

Imagine planning, preparing and cleaning up a dinner party for 4,700 of your closest family and friends every day. Thanks to the generosity of the David M. Crowley Foundation, the VNA Meals on Wheels kitchen has a new, efficient machine to make clean-up much easier. It has a large capacity, is energy efficient, and best of all, requires no pre-hand washing! The Foundation also donated $75,000 to feed 50 homebound seniors for a year. Because of your support, and the support of foundations like David M. Crowley, we are able to drive away hunger and deliver hope to homebound seniors in Dallas County. Thank you!

While the news headlines share the difficulties in the world, I see something very different at VNA. I see care, compassion, and generosity for the most vulnerable people in our community. From thousands of volunteers delivering meals to seniors, foundations adding efficiency and capacity in our operation, corporations committed to partnerships, to staff who go above and beyond to care for people who have nowhere else to turn, there is beauty all around us. The level of commitment, dedication, and generosity from volunteers and staff is truly inspiring, and I thank you for your support. You make the world a better place for our clients and patients each day!
