New Year's Resolution - Volunteer!

Have you made your New Year’s Resolution to volunteer at a caring agency where your service is truly appreciated? Consider the opportunities at VNA to serve seniors in North Texas. You can make a difference by helping people age with dignity and independence at home through Meals on Wheels, hospice care and our pet care program. It’s easy to sign up and make an impact.

Meals on Wheels is delivered 5 days a week and some people volunteer once or twice a month or every week for a delivery route. Hospice volunteers visit with terminal ill patients offering companionship through friendly visits, bereavement events, or assisting our office staff with clerical work. The pet care program helps homebound seniors care for their pets and delivers supplemental pet food on a monthly basis. For all these positions, training is provided and the need is great and always increasing. Keep your New Year's resolution by volunteering today! You can learn more at www.vnatexas.org/get-involved or get started by emailing volunteer@vnatexas.org and let us know your interests.

The Heat is On!

The cold weather is here and our Meals on Wheels clients know it! Many live without heat in their homes and since most of our clients are elderly, this puts their health at risk. We’re doing a HOT drive to collect 100 portable heaters. Help a senior stay warm this season by purchasing a heater from our Amazon wish list page or by sending a designated gift to us of $50 for each heater. Your gift will literally warm the heart of someone who needs your help.

MLK - Keeping the Dream Alive

“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

Join us on Monday, January 16th as we host our 6th Annual MLK National Day of Service Meals on Wheels delivery. On this holiday, you can serve the community with family and friends by delivering a hot, nutritious meal to Meals on Wheels clients. Sign up for this popular volunteer opportunity by contacting Kim Peters at Petersk@vnatexas.org or (214) 689-2210 with your contact information (name, phone & email) by Monday, January 9th.

Anne Muse, A Life of Service

We love all of our clients and each one has a special story. The personal stories inspire us, drive our mission and compel our hearts to serve. One special client, Anne Muse, led us to write a poem about her life.

“There is no greater legacy,
Of loving one another,
Our hearts, our minds, our spirits,
Live on in the joy we share,
The life of service.”

It's a fresh new year, full of possibilities and challenges. With 10,000 people in the United States turning 65 each day, there are so many opportunities for us to serve our senior population. Together, we can fulfill the VNA mission of providing care and services allowing for independence and dignity.

For more than 80 years, VNA has been actively assisting the community with your assistance and support. Whether we are delivering a hot, nutritious meal or caring for a patient at the end of their life, we know that people are depending on us for the help they desperately need. Wishing you a year of health and happiness in 2017!

Gratefully,
