MARCH with VNA!

Across the nation, Meals on Wheels programs are asking supporters to “March for Meals.” This national campaign looks to create awareness of senior hunger, engage supporters in volunteerism, and fundraise specifically to sustain and expand meal delivery to those who need services.

No matter your age or where you live, we have lots of ways you can help! The biggest need is always delivering meals to clients, but you can also help by purchasing a Meals on Wheels t-shirt, liking us on Facebook, dining out at restaurants that are supporting Meals on Wheels, donating pet food, sending an email to an elected official, working with a group to make lap blankets or healthy snack bags, or signing up to make a monthly donation to feed one person.

We hope you will join us in the March for Meals. We serve thousands of seniors each day with a delivered, hot, nutritious meal, but there are many more on a waiting list that need assistance. Your support is always appreciated!

Community Champions Delivering Meals on Wheels

Awareness is key for Meals on Wheels. When people learn about their neighbor's need for nutritious meals and safety checks, along with the smart investment in keeping healthcare costs low, they become champions for Meals on Wheels.

We’ve invited elected officials, local celebrities and other prominent community figures to deliver meals, speak out for seniors and raise awareness for the power of Meals on Wheels.

Thank you to our friends listed below who have already committed to participating, including the Dallas County Commissioners who are issuing a "March for Meals" proclamation.

  • Players and staff from the Mavericks, Rangers, and Cowboys
  • Mayors Carrie Marshall (Balch Springs) and Stan Pickett (Mesquite)
  • Dallas City Council Members Carolyn King Arnold, Lee Kleinman, Casey Thomas, and staff from Phillip Kingston’s office
  • City Manager Cliff Keheley (Mesquite)
  • WFAA Health & Wellness Reporter Sonia Azad
  • Reverend Benjamin Wong, Asian American Baptist Church
  • Dr. Terry Flowers, Headmaster at St. Philip’s School
  • Iris Midler McCallister, Chefs for Farmers
  • The Knights from Medieval Times

Watch our Facebook page to see who is delivering each day!

Supporting VNA Meals on Wheels is DELICIOUS!

All month long there are ways to help VNA Meals on Wheels by dining at supporting restaurants and using an app called TangoTab.

Empire Baking Company (Inwood @ Lovers) will give a percent of store sales throughout the month of March. They have delicious breads, sandwiches, salads, and amazing desserts!

Download the free app TangoTab and use our code: MOWDAL. Each time you check-in or use a special offer at a participating restaurant during March, you’ll help provide a meal to a Meals on Wheels client!

Visit these partners on their specific dates and we’ll get a portion of the sales: California Pizza Kitchen (3/10, Preston @ Northwest Hwy, all day), Liberty Burger (3/20, all locations, 4-9 pm), Craft & Growler (3/28, happy hour) and Mooyah (3/30, Hillcrest @ Northwest Hwy, 5-10 pm).

Each morning at 4 am, our Meals on Wheels kitchen opens and staff members start chopping vegetables and preparing the meal of the day. We could meet nutritional guidelines with a sandwich, but we’re committed to providing a hot, nutritious, freshly made meal to our 6,000 seniors who receive VNA Meals on Wheels.

Last year we delivered 1,600,000 meals and we could not have done it without your support! Our meals cost about $6 to produce and deliver. The meals, and the social interaction a daily visit provides, prevents unnecessary hospitalizations and nursing home stays. National research has shown that every $1 invested in Meals on Wheels equates to $50 savings in Medicaid spending. So while many think of Meals on Wheels as just a compassionate service, it’s also a smart investment. Thank you for helping us make sure no senior goes hungry in our community!

Gratefully,
