Slalom Honors VNA Through Food Drive

Throughout the month of May, Slalom Consulting hosted a company-wide virtual food drive benefiting VNA Meals on Wheels. Hundreds of generous Slalom employees donated nearly $25,000 to provide 4,000 meals to Dallas County homebound senior neighbors! Slalom’s generosity was leveraged even further as they contributed their time pro-bono to help facilitate VNA’s next three-year strategic plan. The team deployed to assist VNA is helping pave the way for VNA to serve more seniors and engage even more volunteers in the community.

It is only through the generosity of outstanding corporate partners, like Slalom, that we are able to fulfill our mission. If you know of a corporate group who would like to customize a giving event or “drive their brand” further through a partnership with VNA, please contact Chris Culak, Vice President, Development (214) 608-2160 or culakc@vnatexas.org. Brewing Good for VNA
Brewing Good at Lakewood Brewery Graphic

Lakewood Brewery in Garland is committed to giving back to the North Texas community. A different nonprofit is designated each month to receive a portion of Lakewood’s profits—more than 200 organizations to date—and VNA has been selected as June’s recipient! Each Sunday in June, $1 from every pint purchased will be donated to help feed hungry, homebound seniors in need. Come on out and cool down with an ice-cold beer while doing some good!

Hunger Doesn’t Wait and Our Seniors Shouldn’t Have to Either

Sadly, one in six Dallas County seniors struggles with hunger. Today, VNA Meals on Wheels delivers hot meals and warm smiles to more than 4,300 seniors and disabled adults each day, yet thousands more are not being served due to lack of funding.

81-year-old Sam has been on our waiting list for four months. He lives on a modest fixed income and suffers from heart disease. Sam hopes that he’ll receive nourishing meals and caring visits in the near future.

Right now, other hungry and lonely seniors in our community are also patiently waiting for their chance to receive hot nourishing meals and comforting visits from VNA Meals on Wheels.

Your gift today will help us provide our vital services to our most vulnerable neighbors. And, if your workplace has an employee matching gift program, your employer can match your gift to help even more seniors in need!

Will you please join VNA and help seniors like Sam?

VNA Meals on Wheels is excited to roll out our NEW Volunteer Portal which will enable us to serve more seniors and facilitate a better volunteer experience for you!

The Volunteer Portal is our volunteers’ one-stop-shop for managing their Meals On Wheels deliveries. Through the Portal, volunteers will be able to:

  • Fully register to become a volunteer, which includes completing an online application, participating in online training, and setting route preferences for route assignments

  • View upcoming routes, sign up to drive additional routes, and cancel upcoming delivery days

  • Edit profile settings and preferences

  • Opt-in to receive email route reminders and notifications of open routes

Stay tuned for your opportunity to dive into the new system if you are already a volunteer or test drive the Meals on Wheels experience for the first time. Click here to take a sneak peek into the portal!

As a parent, I know the joy and sometimes stress summer break can bring for families with children at home. Please consider the opportunity to meaningfully engage with your community by making room between camps, vacations and reunions to deliver some joy to seniors in North Texas.  Here are some fun, family-friendly ways to volunteer with VNA this summer:

  1. Deliver Meals on Wheels

  2. Run a lemonade stand and donate proceeds to VNA Meals on Wheels or Hospice Care

  3. Collect full-size toiletry items for our holiday gift program and join us for our Holiday in August gift wrap party or host one of your own

  4. Gather friends to sing songs or play games with nursing home residents through our hospice volunteer program

  5. Write greeting cards and decorate gift bags for Meals on Wheels clients and Hospice patients

Bonding time with kids, grandkids, friends and family is even more special when you are serving others. And don’t forget, students can earn community service hours as well. Please email volunteer@vnatexas.org to learn more and stay tuned for exciting announcements about our new volunteer portal.  I wish you all a fun, safe and memorable summer!

Sincerely,
