VNA Today April 2018
A SafeHaven for Children and Teens

The loss of a loved one can be extremely difficult for family members and friends, but many times, children are affected more than we may realize. VNA Ann's Haven developed the SafeHaven program specifically to help children and teens process their grief. The eight-week program offers emotional support through support groups for children and their families. The goals of the program are to help these children and teens understand and express their grief, accept and adjust to the changes within the family structure, and help focus on their individual strength to build a stronger sense of self.

At one of the most recent events, SafeHaven saw record attendance with 22 children and 21 parents, grandparents and guardians present; more than 50 individuals participated in the sessions led by professionals and highly trained volunteers. While the stories for these children are difficult to hear, SafeHaven helps them move through their grief experience in a healthy and safe environment. SafeHaven is offered in Denton for any child age 5-18 and their families who have experienced the death of a loved one. For more information about this wonderful program, visit bit.ly/2H1Lrtb.

Make Summer Amazing - Volunteer with Meals on Wheels
Summer Volunteer Opportunites

Summer can be a time of long, hot days with restless kids who are out of school for what may seem like a very, very long time. But this year, finding something fun and exciting to do doesn't have to be a chore. Sign up and volunteer as a family with Meals on Wheels. For every route a volunteer delivers, VNA is able to provide more hot, nutritious meals to seniors in Dallas by saving us the cost of a paid driver. Family time and meeting new people while exposing your children to the benefits of volunteering is just a bonus. For more information, please call our Volunteer Engagement team at (214) 689-3222 or email volunteer@vnatexas.org.

Our generous donors and committed volunteers are the heart of VNA and all we do. We are excited to announce the second phase of our revolutionary technology project, that is an important component of our Drive Away Hunger Campaign to expand Meals on Wheels by 70%. The second phase will create a new volunteer portal enhancing current volunteer logistics and communications as well as enabling more robust recruitment of new volunteers.

During the spring and summer months, Meals on Wheels volunteers and supporters will learn how to use this technology solution that will promote efficient meal delivery, improve volunteer coordination, and better manage operations. The platform, generously funded through the Lyda Hill Foundation and Toyota, will provide volunteers with tools to better manage their volunteer schedules, their meals routes and ultimately help VNA gather critical client health information during wellness checks. Digitizing the information will facilitate better client follow up and connect clients to vital services.

As an advocate for VNA, we are counting on you to be a champion for this exciting tool. With your help, we will be able to recruit more volunteers and serve more seniors in need. Thank you for all you do for VNA and the seniors we serve.

Sincerely,
Katherine Krause Photo round
