Online Volunteer Portal Update

We recently shared our excitement about the Volunteer Portal, a new online tool for our wonderful volunteers. This web-based volunteer site will simplify the scheduling, training, delivery and communication processes. We are putting the finishing touches on this powerful new tool and we are eager to begin training our volunteers to use it next month! Be on the lookout for a training video and classroom training details coming to your email inbox soon.

We are confident that with your support, this technology initiative will help us deliver more meals, recruit new volunteers and serve more seniors in need. We are here to help—send your questions to portalhelp@vnatexas.org or reach out to Tracie Demery at 214-689-2653.

Let’s Get Social!

As a dedicated VNA Meals on Wheels volunteer, you play an integral role in helping us fulfill our mission—to help seniors age with dignity and independence at home.  You are an advocate for VNA and the seniors we serve. Will you help us cheer on our successes and encourage others to get involved by connecting and sharing with us on social media?

Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and like/share with your friends!  Invite your friends and family to support your team by volunteering or giving to VNA.  Thank you for all you do for VNA and our community!

Power of Pie

The 6th Annual Power of Pie is in full swing and we want YOU to be a part of it!

Why Pie? The idea of Power of Pie was born of the idea that pie is a truly special thing. It stands out amongst practically all other foodstuffs as a symbol of comfort, home, and family. As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches and we reflect on the past year, nothing could be more important.

What’s the Power of Pie? It’s pie roulette! You order a pie without knowing who the baker of the pie is-and are then surprised when you pick up your pie and bring it to your Thanksgiving table. Want to know who the generous chefs and bakers are this year? Keep reading…

What programs benefit from my donation?
For $25, we offer North Texas families a way to experience some of the best baked pies our community has to offer, with 100% of the donation directly supporting VNA Meals on Wheels, Hospice and Palliative Care. Each day, VNA delivers meals to more than 4,500 of our senior neighbors in Dallas who are ill and homebound. And during the holidays, VNA helps patients and clients know they are not alone.

When can I get my pie?
You can order online now at Power of Pie. Pie pickups will be on Tuesday, November 20 and Wednesday, November 21 at locations throughout the Metroplex.

Did You Know?
In 2018, 42,429 pounds of pet food were distributed to 273 seniors and their 280 dogs, 123 cats, and 4 birds.

Tips for Successful Deliveries

Please report any client concerns to the Meals on Wheels Office (214-689-2639).

  • Please give the client enough time to reach the door. You may have a note on your manifest to call the client a few minutes before you arrive, giving them time to get to the door.

  • Say hello to each client and engage them in a brief conversation if they seem interested.

  • Feel free to call the client if you’ve waited several minutes and no one answers the door.

  • Respect the confidentiality of your clients—do not reveal their names, addresses, or any other personal information to others, this includes any information you may learn in conversations with your clients.

Corporate Volunteer Groups Deliver Hope

Our valued partners at Century Link delivered 100 meals to clients in South Dallas. They also donated their time to assemble and deliver healthy snack bags. Thank you, Century Link!
