VNA Pet Program Gets a Boost from a Dedicated Supporter

VNA is honored to announce the receipt of a $35,000 grant from The Rees-Jones Foundation for the VNA Pet Care Program. Launched in 2013, the VNA Pet Care Program offers supplemental pet food for Meals on Wheels clients in need of additional assistance. The seniors receiving Meals on Wheels are the hidden hungry, they are homebound and often disabled, unable to access food for themselves. Obtaining pet food can be extremely difficult and sadly, many seniors will sacrifice their own meals to ensure their pets are fed. The Rees-Jones Foundation has generously supported the program previously and with this most recent gift, will help VNA assist even more Meals on Wheels clients and their beloved companions. VNA looks forward to growing the Pet Care Program and continuing to help seniors age with dignity and independence at home! For more information or to sign up to volunteer please visit the VNA Pet Care page.

As many of you may be aware, VNA is lending a helping hand to those impacted by Hurricane Harvey who are making their way to North Texas for help. Our efforts have included partnering with the North Texas Food Bank to provide shelf-stable meals to distribute to area food pantries. Due to the influx of evacuees, many food pantries in the Dallas area are experiencing higher-than-normal volume, and VNA hopes to alleviate some of the burden with these extra meals.

Additionally, we are in constant contact with Meals on Wheels Association of Texas to be ready to assist the local Meals on Wheels and their clients affected by the storm. Finally, helping in a way only VNA could, a Hospice patient from the Beaumont area evacuated to Dallas with his family and was referred to us. VNA Hospice Care has sprung into action providing assistance to the patient and his family as they navigate not only losing precious belongings and being uprooted to a different city, but also the end of life.

It is only through your generosity that VNA is able to help so many who need it most. We hope you will continue to support VNA by giving on North Texas Giving Day and through our delicious Power of Pie fundraiser. Thank you for all you do.

Gratefully,
