Many people who see the impact of VNA Hospice Care want to lend their time and energy as a Volunteer. At VNA, we have a wide variety of opportunities for Volunteers, from working directly with patients to participating in fundraising opportunities.
Many people who see the impact of VNA Hospice Care want to lend their time and energy as a Volunteer. At VNA, we have a wide variety of opportunities for Volunteers, from working directly with patients to helping in one of our offices.
Direct Patient Care Volunteers provide friendly visits, caregiver relief and special birthday deliveries.
Tuck in Call Volunteers phone home patients or caregivers weekly to check on supplies and medications before the weekend and offer friendly phone support.
Bereavement Volunteers provide support after the death of the patient through phone calls, helping with grief support groups, writing caring notes and delivering special heart hug pillows.
Administrative Volunteers assist with clerical duties and provide administrative support to VNA.
Special Project Volunteers help with delivering holiday bags, helping with fundraising projects like Light up a Life, pediatric camps and events, and making and delivering veteran appreciation certificates through our We Honor Veterans Program.
Sewing Projects for VNA Hospice Care patients include lap blankets positioning pillows, heart hug pillows and fidget blankets. Volunteers provide materials to make the blankets and pillows. Other sewing projects include the Memory Bear keepsake, made of fabric from a piece of clothing worn by the patient.
Pet Therapy Volunteers visit our patients for improvement in quality of life. Our hospice patients are often unable to care for an animal despite having had them in the past or being an animal lover. The owner/handler will need to be trained and credentialed as a hospice volunteer. Animals must be current on vaccines, pet therapy certification and insurance.
*VNA encourages family members to wait a minimum of one year following the death of a loved one before volunteering as a Hospice Patient Care Volunteer or Bereavement Support Volunteer.
