Meet April Burns

System Support Analyst | Meals on Wheels

If you’ve ever needed tech help at Meals on Wheels, you’ve likely worked with April Burns. As our Systems Support Analyst, she provides essential support to staff, drivers, and volunteers—handling everything from mobile devices to system troubleshooting and app support.
April started her MOW journey in 2011 as an intake specialist, later becoming a case coordinator. Her tech instincts led her to join the IT side full-time in 2019, supporting the launch of our internal systems to NetSuite. “Being a woman in tech is both empowering and exciting. It’s validating to know I’m in the right position,” she says.
Each day, April checks if systems are running smoothly, pulls data, addresses support tickets, and works with developers to improve our tools. “I love keeping a daily pulse on our tech and constantly asking how we can make things better, faster, and easier for our staff and clients,” she says.
April thrives in the ever-evolving world of IT.  “Our app is only five years old—it’s still a baby! We’ve got so many opportunities to grow and improve, ” she says.   She’s proud of the 100% adoption of our mobile app by 80+ drivers and the robust emergency Meals on Wheels protocols. “Even when systems go down, I’m calm and ready. We always have a plan,” she says.
Professionally, April is always learning. Inspired by her father, a longtime IT manager, April’s been building her skills through platforms like W3Schools, YouTube, and on-the-job training at MOW. She’s earned a software developer certification. She says the learning never stops in tech, and that’s what she loves most about the industry.
April is a singer on her church worship team and enjoys reading and family time. She met her husband at band camp when she was just 11 years old—they’ve now been married for 16 years. Their daughter Aurora, 7, is a huge source of motivation.
Thanks to April, MOW’s tech is in great hands—ready for whatever comes next.
