This summer, Visiting Nurse Association of Texas (VNA) will expand access to compassionate hospice care with the opening of the VNA Inpatient Unit at the T. Boone Pickens Campus in Dallas. Located at 2477 Merit Drive, this specialized facility will provide a higher level of support for hospice patients and their families when care needs become too complex to manage at home. The new unit is expected to open this summer and will serve both adult and pediatric hospice patients enrolled in VNA Hospice.
The VNA Inpatient Unit will offer two important levels of hospice care:
General Inpatient Care (GIP)
General Inpatient Care is a short-term, hospital-level hospice service for patients experiencing severe pain or acute symptoms that cannot be safely managed in a home or residential setting. This may include uncontrolled pain, breathing distress, severe nausea, or other complex symptoms that require around-the-clock clinical attention. The inpatient unit will provide a comfortable environment where patients can receive intensive symptom management from VNA’s experienced hospice team.
Respite Care
Caring for a loved one at the end of life is a meaningful act of love, but it can also be physically and emotionally exhausting. Respite care offers family caregivers a much-needed opportunity to rest, travel, or attend to personal matters while ensuring their loved one continues to receive professional, compassionate care. Hospice patients may stay at the inpatient unit for a short-term respite stay, allowing caregivers to recharge with peace of mind.
The opening of the VNA Inpatient Unit represents another step forward in VNA’s commitment to meeting the needs of North Texas families with dignity, compassion, and expertise. Whether a patient requires intensive symptom management or a temporary respite stay, the new unit will provide a safe, supportive setting focused on comfort and quality of life.
