Inaugural VNA Meals on Wheels Kids Camp a Success!
|
We welcomed thirty-three campers to our inaugural VNA Meals on Wheels Kids Camp!
The 8-11year olds enjoyed delivering food and friendship to homebound seniors in Oak Cliff while learning valuable lessons on the importance of kindness and understanding the needs of others. The campers also created colorful cards and notes of encouragement to deliver to our Meals on Wheels clients. The afternoon started with a tour of the Meal son Wheels commercial kitchen and a short stint in the freezer-brrr! Camp ended with a lesson on good nutrition using the rainbow as a guide and they enjoyed a fruit and vegetable tasting! Who knew radishes and kiwis tasted so good?
What our campers are saying:
“The most important thing I learned today is that people not only need food and water, but to have interactions with others. Being lonely can never be a good thing.”
“The most important thing I learned today was that even something seemingly small can make a big difference. Even just drawing someone a picture or giving them a meal and have a short conversation cam make them feel less lonely and sad and let them know that they are seen.”
What the camper parents are saying:
“Forget boring summer camps! My 9- and 11-year-olds just became superheroes at the coolest camp ever—the Meals on Wheels Kids Camp! It’s been a great way to give back to our community while they had a blast. It’s a small-time commitment, but the impact we’ve made feels significant. I highly recommend the kids camp at Meals on Wheels. It’s a win-win for everyone involved!”
Thank you to our Teen Board Counselors Noah, Stacey, Alana and Asher!
