We are honored to share that the VNA Hospice Team has been named Nonprofit Team of the Year (Mega) in D CEO’s 2026 Nonprofit and Corporate Citizenship Awards, presented in partnership with the Communities Foundation of Texas. Winners were revealed at an awards event celebrating the organizations, professionals, and companies making a difference across North Texas.

This recognition honors the compassionate, collaborative care our hospice team provides every day. As D CEO shared in its announcement, the Hospice Team at Visiting Nurse Association of Texas walks alongside families during life’s most difficult moments, providing comfort, dignity, and compassionate care when it’s needed most.

The 3rd annual VNA Meals on Wheels Kids Camp welcomed 20 campers from across Dallas County this week! They spent three full days learning about volunteerism and empathy, and exploring the realities of senior hunger and social isolation affecting homebound neighbors.

Unlike traditional summer camps, this experience combined education with real-world action. The curriculum focused heavily on community and connection. They tackled the issue of loneliness head-on, creating handmade cards, notes of encouragement, and kindness crafts designed to brighten a senior’s day. To understand the importance of nutrition, campers enjoyed an interactive food tasting experience.

The highlight of the camp was the opportunity for children to hit the road each day and deliver real VNA Meals on Wheels routes. Accompanied by counselors, campers hand-delivered hot lunches and friendly smiles directly to the doorsteps of local residents, including seniors living at The Oaks at Hampton Retirement Center and Nolen Grand Apartments in Oak Cliff.

Campers also wrote letters to their parents, sharing what camp life is like:

Dear Dad,
This is the best camp ever! We delivered a lot of meals to people. I made two more friends! We also get to do activities. We also get good snacks!

I’ve learned a lot of things at camp, but the thing I learned the most is to help people that need help.

Help Us Deliver More Than a Meal. Help Us Deliver Hope.

At VNA, we have a big goal for FY27.

We want to recruit 30 additional volunteers each day to help us increase volunteer-delivered Meals on Wheels routes from 40% to 50%. Achieving this goal could save nearly $324,000 annually, allowing us to provide a full year of meals to approximately 159 more senior neighbors who are waiting for help.

That’s where you come in.

If you’re already a VNA volunteer, thank you. Will you help us reach this ambitious goal by inviting someone to join you?

• Bring a friend on your next route
• Ask your church or faith community to adopt a route
• Invite coworkers to volunteer together during lunch
• Encourage your civic club, neighborhood group, or community organization to get involved
• Share your volunteer experience on social media

VNA delivers meals throughout nearly 1,000 square miles of Dallas County, and volunteers can choose a delivery area that works best for their schedule, home, workplace, or church.

“I’ve been delivering Meals on Wheels for more than 10 years with my church, Saint Michael and All Angels, my husband, my children, and friends. There is no better way to spend an hour delivering food and friendship.”

The beauty of Meals on Wheels is that you don’t have to do it alone. Some of our most dedicated volunteers serve with spouses, friends, colleagues, children, and fellow church members. It’s an easy and meaningful way to give back together while brightening the day of a homebound senior.

This year, we’re asking our VNA family of donors, volunteers, and supporters to help us reach an important milestone:
