Aging in Place Conference June 6th!
|
The Visiting Nurse Association of Texas (VNA), Community Council of Greater Dallas, and The Senior Source are collaborating to host a conference on the challenges, benefits, and gaps associated with aging independently or aging in one’s home. According to the American Advisors Group, in 2023, 92% of older adults surveyed prefer to live out their later years in their current homes, while only 10% of homes are aging ready. This conference will cover important topics such as home safety, services supporting those who want to “age independently,” and how to compare living at home vs. moving to a long-term care facility.
If you are a professional* working with older adults, a family member taking care of a loved one, or a community member interested in this topic, there is something for you! Breakfast is included! Sign up by clicking here.
*3.5 Social Work CEUs will be offered.

Help our senior clients beat the heat this summer!
|
We receive requests regularly from our VNA Meals on Wheels clients requesting a box fan to help keep them cool during the Texas summer heat. Volunteers and staff deliver fans and other needed items to help our clients safely age in place. We have three cool ways for you to help older adults this summer:
- Purchase a fan from our Amazon Wish List. The fan will be sent directly to our VNA Haggerty Kitchen and delivered to a senior in need.
- Make an online donation toward the purchase of a fan, by going to: Online fan donation form
- Drop off a fan anytime between 10:00 am-2:00 pm on “FAN FRIDAYS” every Friday in May and June! Please drop off fans at our VNA Haggerty Kitchen located at 1440 W. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, TX 75247.
