Delivering Hope to Children’s Haven Patients – Meet Mitchell

Mitchell, a Children’s Haven Pediatric Hospice patient, has dreamed of becoming a police officer his entire life. When VNA Child Life Specialist Sarah Leavitt, BS, CCLS learned of Mitchell’s dream, she quickly made the call to the Garland Police Department and set the wheels in motion for a surprise of a lifetime.

On June 24th, Mitchell and his family were greeted with a hero’s parade and celebration.

More than 30 police squad cars, fire trucks, EMS vehicles and various vintage vehicles flashed their lights and sounded their horns while active and retired officers smiled and waved to Mitchell and his family. Representatives from across the first responder family presented him with memorabilia including coins, stickers, water bottles and t-shirts.

At the end of the parade, Mitchell received a certificate with the designation of Honorary Garland Police Officer from Captain Danielle May on behalf of Garland Police Chief Jeff Bryan. Our sincere thanks go to ALL those who made this dream come true.
